Founded in Dunfermline, Scotland by third-generation tradesman Ian Steele, IS Plumbing & Heating are a family-run business with close ties within the community, providing boiler installation, servicing & repairs, central heating services, power flushing, air source heat pumps, general plumbing, and bathroom installations.
Specialising in Plumbing, Heating, and Renewables, they are fully accredited members of OFTEC, MCS, RECC, Gas Safe Register, Trustmark, and BPEC, as well as one of the Three Best Rated Plumbers in Fife, Vaillant MasterTEC Installers and approved installers for many other renowned brands.
The challenge
IS Plumbing & Heating’s existing website was in desperate need of an upgrade, as it had not been designed with conversions or search engines in mind – it only had three pages dedicated to all their services. It wasn’t built to automate enquiries 24/7, and it wasn’t working hard at generating leads for their business. They knew they needed a website to take their business to the next level.
In addition to their plumbing & heating services, they also wanted to start focusing on air source heat pump installations, given the increasing popularity of renewable energy.
What we did
When Kerry and Ian from IS Plumbing & Heating contacted us for a new website design, we were delighted to help them with what we do best – designing and building SEO-optimised websites for plumbers and heating engineers.
Step 1: Building a website that helps win quality leads
Instead of just 3 service pages, we designed and built IS Plumbing & Heating’s website with 8 dedicated pages for each of their services to help them generate enquiries for their preferred jobs, along with a gallery to showcase examples of their work, a reviews page with a live reviews feed to show social proof, and a heat pump quote page with an integrated link to Spruce to make it easy for customers to a request an estimate for their air source heat pump installations.
Their website also features an about page, links to their Facebook and X business profiles, and we migrated their case studies from their old website. This was a huge task!
Step 2: Monthly SEO services to boost their rankings & quote requests
As part of our monthly SEO services to help improve their rankings on search engines, such as Google, and in recent years, in AI search, such as ChatGPT, we added an “Areas we serve” page, which has expanded into geopages to target locations where IS Plumbing & Heating want to work, such as Fife, Perth, Edinburgh, etc., for their preferred services, such as plumbing & heating, air source heat pumps, and boilers.
We have also written keyword-rich blog posts and FAQs to inform potential clients, as well as focusing on the off-site aspects of SEO, such as optimising their Google Business Profile and other online listings.
Step 3: PPC services for even more quality leads
As part of our monthly PPC services, we have been managing IS Plumbing & Heating’s Google Search Ads, which appear at the top of search results to further boost their online visibility and deliver excellent return on investment with even more high-quality leads. This involves creating, tracking, and managing a targeted Google Ads campaign for their preferred areas and services, in this case, air source heat pumps.
We also set up their Google Local Service Ads, which allowed them to pay per lead, instead of per click. Seasonally, we also created Facebook Ads campaigns for them to increase their visibility on social media and raise awareness of their air source heat pump installations.
The results in detail
Since IS Plumbing & Heating’s new website went live, it has grown to include a full section about heat pumps to help inform potential customers, along with client video testimonials to help build even more trust. Plus, their home page has been revamped, with a contact form at the top to encourage clients to contact them and FAQs to put their clients’ minds at ease and answer common questions.
They’re also ahead of their competitors in Dunfermline at the top of Google for:

… and on the first page for all of their other services!
