In our fourth ‘Meet the Team’ interview, we catch up with Technical Web Developer John Collins, to learn more about his role, his love of gaming, his hobbies and his favourite projects.
What’s your role at WDSEO?
I am the team’s technical web developer as well as the project and systems manager, meaning I handle some more of the complex issues, the bespoke or technical tools that clients require as well as keeping the wheels turning and looking for new innovations. Whether that is data feed processing, plugin modifications new systems analysis or liaising with clients about ongoing projects.
How long have you worked here?
I have been with the company now for several years but have worked in the industry since I was 15 years old.
What would you say your favourite thing about your role is?
Without a doubt, it’s the variety of work that comes my way. One minute I am developing a hairdressing studio’s website and the next we are working on a site for selling industrial manufacturing equipment.
Out of the projects you’ve worked on so far, which one would you say was your favourite?
Tamar Caravan Centre was the most technically involved so far and I learned a lot doing so but I would have to say my favourite was probably Western Maritime Training. the project was a good technical challenge as well as being quite large in scope so there was plenty of time to get stuck into the topic and even tour their facilities.
Did you always want to work in the web development field?
I have been working as a professional web developer since I was 18 but I have been making websites for local business since i was 15. My first professional role being an in-house developer for a local camping equipment store and have been doing it in various ways ever since.
What’s your favourite part about working for WDSEO?
I love being surrounded by people who know their stuff. It’s a joy to know your colleagues are capable and talented.
What would you say to someone who was thinking of joining the WDSEO team?
Bring your A-game and you will fit right in! Each of us are hardworking and motivated to improve our expertise. If that sounds like you then we’ll get on fine.
What’s your favourite way to unwind after a busy day?
I am a gamer at heart, so having a good game to sink into will always keep me busy. When I’m not doing that, I like to paint and cook. Of course, nothing beats quality time with my daughter!
What’s the first concert you ever went to?
I have never been to a concert before! Unfortunately, I have tinnitus so I can’t attend anything too loud.
What fictional place would you most like to visit?
Edolas. Who wouldn’t want to visit a place with oceans in the sky and cities on islands above the clouds filled with wizards?
What’s your most-used emoji?
If you could snap your fingers and become an expert in something, what would it be?

If sleeping could be a full-time job, I would be a top earner!
If you had to listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Breezeblocks by alt-j.
