Domain Registration
When you choose our Small Business Website, we will register one “.co.uk” or “.com” domain on your behalf using our current hosting infrastructure, which is included.
However, we highly recommend purchasing both “.co.uk” and “.com” domains. This helps to secure your branding and prevents competitors from taking advantage and causing confusion with your potential clients. Additionally, it’s beneficial for your SEO, giving you the best possible chances of ranking and getting found on Google.
For our Shopify and Bespoke Website clients, we can register your chosen domain on your behalf and invoice you accordingly, at cost. (Typically, these cost between £10 and £15 per year/domain.)
Choosing Your Domain: Relevance is Key
When deciding on your domain name, ideally, it should reflect your business and the services you provide, as well as your location, to boost your visibility in local search results. Additionally, you should avoid hyphens and numbers, which can often be perceived as spammy, and acronyms and abbreviations, which tend to be unclear to both search engines and your potential clients. Don’t forget to make it easy to spell and not too long!
Using Your Existing Domain
If you already have your own domain, we can redirect your old domain to your new one once your new website is live. Alternatively, if you would prefer to use your existing domain, especially if it has a good authority, which is important for SEO, we can redirect the new domain we have registered to your old one.
In fact, the length of time your domain has been registered and in use, as well as the quality of the website it is used on, can greatly impact your SEO rankings.
Transferring Your Domain
If you ever decide to leave WDSEO for any reason, we can help you transfer your domain. Please note, this service will incur a cost to cover our team’s time. (See details in Terms & Conditions.) This does not include any email migration work, as this is not a service we provide.
