Understanding Your Website Ownership
This is an important question – and something we get asked a lot, so we want to be as transparent as possible. We appreciate that getting a new website is a huge decision, and ownership is a key part of that.
How Do Your Pay Monthly Websites Work?
When you choose our Small Business Website, you will have the option to pay for your website on a monthly subscription basis, with a small deposit. This model is much like subscribing to services like Trustpilot, QuickBooks, or Jobber.
Your initial subscription period can be for 6, 12, or 24 months. This covers your Website Design and Development, SEO-optimised Copywriting, Stock Images, if required, a Consent Management Platform, a .co.uk Domain and Webmail. After this period, you will have full website ownership. This payment structure is cashflow-friendly – allowing you to invest in your future, without the worry about paying a large upfront cost for your website.
If you decide to pay for your Small Business Website in full, you will have complete ownership from the get-go.
Is There Anything Else I Need In Addition to My Small Business Website?
In addition to your website, you will need Website Hosting, Support, and Maintenance, also known as the “Monthly Website Care Package“, which costs £39 + VAT per month and will be invoiced separately to your new website, with a minimum term of 24 months. This includes Quality Hosting, Unlimited Minor Content Edits and UK-based Support, Daily Backups, SSL Certificate & Security Monitoring, & Website Maintenance (including regular checks and actioning of any Google Search Console issues) and continues on a monthly basis. You have the freedom to cancel this at any time if you wish after 24 months (but of course, we hope you won’t!)
What Happens If I Leave WDSEO?
If you decide to leave WDSEO after the 24-month period, rest assured, you will own your website and domain and have full original design and copyright ownership of your logo, if we have designed one for you. You are free to take these if you choose to move elsewhere – no hard feelings! Upon your written request, we will package up your website and send the files to you. (At a cost – please see our Terms & Conditions.)
Please note, if you choose to leave us before the initial 24-month period, you will still need to pay for the remainder of the “Monthly Website Care Package.” This is much like having a phone contract, where you will need to pay for your phone over a period of time. After which, you can do whatever you like with it!
Additionally, your website will be built using our unique theme, which contains a combination of paid and free website builders and plugins, such as Divi Supreme for the design, Advanced Custom Fields Pro for your contact form, and Defender Pro for your website security. (A full list can be provided upon request.) We have licences for these, which are non-transferable.
So, when transferring your website to a new hosting or web provider, you will need to obtain appropriate software licences. Otherwise, some of the functionality of your website will not work. You will also need to subscribe to CookieYes, which is a Consent Management Platform, as well as pay for your SSL certificate, domain, and hosting on a yearly basis.
Will I Own My Shopify or Bespoke Website?
If you have purchased one of our Shopify or Bespoke Websites, you will have complete ownership of your entire site after you have paid the upfront cost.
This means that if you decide to leave us for any reason once your website is live, we can help transfer your domain and website to your new hosting provider. Please note that there may be a fee for this service, as transferring a website can be complex and time-consuming. (We will provide you with a quote before proceeding.) Again, no hard feelings; we don’t want to keep you tied down if you choose to move on!
